Loss – Friday Rambling – Week 18

There are times that the losses are bold, in your face or hard to ignore.

They activate a lump in your throat or pit in the stomach. Waves of grief-like emotions such as pain or sorrow crash into your life. Tears flow.

But, it’s the little losses…things that slip from our lives without notice or often continue undetected, even for the most astute observer, that I’d like to discuss.

First, let me start with the positive: the only good loss is “weight-loss” (with the exception of people who struggle with eating disorders). And usually we DO notice that- in quarter pound increments, no less! Enough positivity.

I find, as I age, that I mourn the loss of time more than anything. Money, memory, hope, hair, health, faith…they’ve all taken some subtle hits. But, it’s hours in the day that torture my decisions most. Wasted time is such an aggravation!

Time is to be cherished. And the catch-22 is that this lesson took many years to learn. It seems a cruel trick.

I think of this in regard to everything: marriage, faith, children, career, desires, friendships, hopes. Precious time to be divvied up, but how and where…why?

There is still so much to figure out. How can that be when I’m well past middle age?

The only good thing about this line of musing is that it reminds me of how akin to a toddler I am- running around, asking questions continually.

Maybe there is more time left than I think.

Have a wonderful weekend, friends! I love you! ❤ Keep an eye out for the little losses…

“Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.” – Nathaniel Hawthorne

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16
