Adios Facebook- Friday Rambling Wk 1

This week I deactivated my Facebook account. It wasn’t an easy decision as it’s been a part of my life for almost eight years. So much fun…sharing pics, watching far-away family or friends wrangle with life. To be fair, also enjoying the same from people geographically close.

Some of my friends said they would miss the Friday Rambling, so I’m going to start it on here and see how it goes. I think I would miss it, too. There are some therapeutic attributes to penning words every week that make me ponder. So, here goes nothing. πŸ™‚

Friday Rambling…

As much as I agree with freedom of speech, there’s a point that I want to shout from the mountaintops: “Shut up!” Anyone can have an opinion, but do we need to hear it over and over…and over again? Apparently, many think we do.

I’m just wondering when an opinion became more important than people. When insulting others replaced properly presenting your passion (Yes, I do like P words πŸ˜‰ ) Why would someone feel a burgeoning need to express themselves when so many other priorities exist?

Picture Smeagle in “Lord of the Rings.” The ring are people’s precious opinions and the love of those opinions makes you look, well, like Smeagle. It’s not pretty, but you can’t give it up.

That’s part of the reason I removed myself from Facebook. Too many people polishing their rings. It got ugly.

Those most engaged in opiniontry (totally new word- it may catch on) were people that one day were expressing love for their family and friends or issuing advice about how to live a better life…be a better person. And then? Smeagle. I don’t deal with hypocrisy well.

I imagine there are people out there with incredibly hurt feelings or damaged relationships because of all the dung they’ve encountered over this last, crazy year. Please let me, on behalf of all the people that should have shut up…apologize to you.

It’s not the same, but it’s something.

And when it would be nice to interact in a positive way, but instead people choose to “share” the unwanted opinion, “news” article, nonsense, whatever…

It’s not the same, but it’s something.

Remember when people would compliment each other? Use their time wisely? Do more, instead of say more? Ya, me either.

The irony is not lost on me, that I’m offering up an opinion on opinions. But, just saying “shut up” would have made this a very short and rather rude little “ditty.”

Learn what’s important and strive for better than “something.”

I love you friends! ❀ Have a wonderful weekend!!

  1. Yay, I love Friday Ramblings! I fully agree, just shut up. I miss it too, Toni. People have become either too self absorbed or too political. The irony when it comes to the people spewing politics, is their falling for the very trap these politicians wanted them to.
I’m so glad to be able to still connect with you. I mean it’s not through you crushing me at Word Blitz but I will take it. Happy Friday! 😁❀
