All the world has, at one time or another, talked about the idea of unity.
In the definition of “unity,” the word “oneness” is used. For that very reason, unity becomes an impossible destination to reach.
So many strive to be unique (definition: being the only one of its kind, unlike anything or anyone else). That in itself, rejects the idea of unity. And there are many individuals that are unique without the need to try.
Does everyone in your family agree with each other? Do your friends have the same opinions about all topics? Do you side with your partner’s viewpoint every time?
I doubt it.
If we can’t have unity within our base relationships, how are we to expect it throughout our culture, our country…
I’ve seen so many arguments this year on social media that were just gross. One of the worst involved an ALL-CAP, MA language-rating of who had a more dire case of mental illness. (What in the actual…)
While people call for unity- what they really should strive for is respect. It’s a lost concept and this fairy-tale state of unity is unattainable without it.
But, that is so like the American culture…trying to run before we can walk. Thinking we have all the answers, when not asking the right questions.
The United States of America…where the only link of “unity” I’ve witnessed lately is the ability to disrespect each other.
As much as we’d like to think all relationships have to do with the level of compatibility- that is not the case. Without commitment, nothing else really matters…
Commit to respect. Love you, friends!! Have a wonderful weekend!! ❤
“To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater.” – Bono
“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” – Hebrews 13:2
Thank you! I’ve often wondered where all the respect has gone? Will we ever get it back?
