Ah, the past. An area rife with memories, regrets, history…you name it. We may carry some baggage along with us from the past- grief, longing, anger or any number of emotional bundles.
They’re heavy and require upkeep.
But a day will come that you lay that baggage down and go on without it, enjoying the freedom and energy to accomplish other things. When we carry heavy loads, wrapping our arms around present opportunities or relationships is an impossibility.
For example, someone from my past contacted me a few weeks ago with a random comment on facebook. Because of this person, there are years of miscellaneous baggage scattered on the landscape of my life. Some I even went back to pick up over and over again. But today, I move forward unencumbered.
I wish this person no ill will. To do so would mean revisiting the abandoned baggage, rifling through the contents and reliving whatever history resided in the bag of choice.
No thank you.
Peace often involves being free of unhealthy people. Everyone should know that kind of peace- free of guilt and strongly affirmed.
I think of the old spiritual, made famous my MLK Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech: “Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.”
Have a good weekend, friends! Love you. Strive for peace.
