Passion- Friday Rambling Wk 3

To look someone in the eye as they tell you they aren’t sure of their passion in life is heartbreaking. Three people very close to me have shared that same sentiment in a short time span.

Their words hit my ears as a bevy of emotions leave a lump in my throat. How could the person admitting such a thing be feeling? In truth, I want to cry…bawl like a newborn, not sure of what it wants.

The fixer in me (and she’s a driven wench), wants to disengage from the swill of day to day life, pack a light bag and set out on a quest to discover my loved ones elusive passion somewhere in the weeds.

I picture we’d be wearing some sort of hiking get-up, with binoculars hanging around our neck. After using the machete to cut through the noise of life, Epiphany Lookout is within reach. There, we’d stop for a picnic and review life’s best times. When did you last laugh until your gut hurt? What makes you feel loved? How do you want to be remembered?

We’d spy birds flying above and ponder where they’re headed…where you’re headed. When lunch was over, we’d go down to the lake and take a swim (yes, right after we ate- that 30 minute thing is a myth). We’d splash and float, diving under the water to drown out every sound.

On our way back to the world, gazing through our binoculars, there would be moments we thought we caught a glimpse of passion, only to realize it couldn’t be seen with the naked eye.

As the sun falls lower and the return to life looms, maybe we understand more or are closer to passion than we were before. Or it could take more than one attempt.

At least I got to spend time with one of my passions. ❤
