People are Strange

It’s true. The Doors originally wrote the bizarre lyrics to a song with the same title. Then, Tiny Tim did a cover of it. I never found his voice particularly pleasing and often wondered why the 6′ 1″ singer was deemed “Tiny.” Also- strange.

I mused about strange people this week because one night after work, my husband mentioned the new neighbors a couple doors down. He saw them in their back yard in the wee hours of the morning, enjoying a smoke and all he saw were the tips of their lighted cigarettes moving around in the dark. He deemed that as strange behavior.

It didn’t seem strange to me at all. We’ve lived in this neighborhood for a long time and have seen many neighbors come and go, while witnessing far stranger activities than that. Maybe he thought it was strange because they didn’t have their outside lights on and were sitting in the dark? I don’t know.

But, a couple of days later, early in the morning and still pitch black (before the clocks were pulled back an hour)- I opened up an upstairs window to remind my husband of something.

And there he was in our back yard, with the dogs- walking around with a headlamp on, so he could collect any piles they might deposit. Just a bouncing, beacon of light, meandering around in the dark, with no seemingly obvious patterns of travel.

I shut the window, tilting my head to the side, thinking to myself- “I wonder what the neighbors think of him. My bet is- strange!”

Perspective is sometimes like the mirrors at the fun house. ❤

Have a wonderful week! Love you!
