Mondays – Friday Rambling Wk 14

Having lived through plenty of Mondays, they don’t bum me out as much as they used to, but this Monday was different.

I had to give myself a pep talk just to rise from the bed. I didn’t wanna. (Yes, that’s my inner-toddler). My reward for getting up was an overcast, cold day.

Nothing in the closet looked good. My shower was OK. Breakfast didn’t sound appetizing. Everything was just off, making me want to march right back to bed and pull the covers over my head.

My briefcase, lunch, and beverage of choice were grabbed before heading into the office as though they were weapons for the upcoming battle (aka work). A ritual that has taken place five times a week, for years.

The drive between home and the office is a short one, but every street I crossed became a potential for a u-turn. And then, at the half-way mark of the drive, a song came on that lifted my spirits and changed my attitude 180 degrees. There is such amazing power in music!

It was “Smooth” by Rob Thomas and Carlos Santana. It’s not my favorite song, but it was the song I needed to hear at the time. It made me feel like it was the middle of summer in my younger years (even though the song is not from that timeframe). When the last note ended, a large smile graced my face.

The song was the little bit of sunshine that was missing…the extra hour of sleep I didn’t get…the meal that wasn’t eaten. It was the catalyst to get me through the day.

Music can be magical. That song must have been just the spell I needed.

Have a great weekend, friends!! Love you! ❤
